Ridin' The Storm's Out

March 2011
Kailua Kona, Hawaii

To recap:
I'm not sure where we left off? Let's see. Well it says March 2011, doofus....
Oh. So it does.
This slice of time finds me in Hawaii, still. Almost two years after we lost our San Francisco home to fire and I'm still a Pacific Gypsy. Remember that huge earthquake that hit Japan? (Or has the Kardashian wedding erased that brain cell?) heheh I'm saying this sarcastically to myself, because I find it frightening and amazing how we forget so much of what is important because we are under a sense assault; a barrage of information and crap is dropping on us daily. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some information, but so much stimuli often supersedes the heart of the matter-at least in the mind. I was reminded of this during the evacuation when the Tsunami wave was heading towards The Big Island.

It was and wasn't a big deal. As usual the anticipation and quelling the fear had more impact on me than the actual wave. The nature of a Tsunami is so unpredictable and of course I still had PTSD from watching those PBS Documentary's on the Southeast Asian Tsunami, which planted nightmares in my mind. (True story). I knew it would be nothing of that magnitude, but that doesn't stop your brain from flashing on a horror montage commercial of all the footage that was later revealed of that utterly terrifying wave. Similar to driving on the Bay Bridge. It's difficult not to think of that 10 sec. continuous news loop of the '89 collapse and the cars flying into the gulch that was once the lower level.

Did a wave hit? Yes. Was it catastrophic? Not so much. But people lost their property and businesses lost business. I would equate it to a sort of Hawaiian 'snow day' the next day. Just kind of-wtf? I did find a special, new-to-me fear when the sirens went off, knowing we had to leave. Packing that one bag that you meant to pack for an emergency (your Hobo Bag I've heard it referred to as), but never did. I'll spare us all the 'what's in your back pack' cliche. Let's just say it makes you condense your priorities into a strange pinpoint of desire/need. All the while these menacing horns of doom loudly blaring. Usually that siren song heralded the opening of REO's "Riding The Storm Out", or some other FM classic*. In this instance that sound signified that that was actually what we were doing, in real time; riding the "storm" out, heading for higher ground.  I realize we weren't being bombed or raided and raped like a lot of peoples around the world, but when it's Mama Nature rockin' it, it seems more inherently powerful somehow, definitely cooler, and still totally unnerving. To me that island seemed small and vulnerable in the middle of the ocean that night, waiting for the wave. But at least we had a place to go.

Thankfully more Ohana live up the mountain, so we retreated to this Zen-like haven of safety as we watched the news the next day, prayed for Japan and walked around the grounds/lava the next morning.

This grapefruit was almost obscene but the blossom scent was pure heaven!

This butterfly made me happy, as most do....

Kamehameha Butterfly  I believe it's one of only two species of indigenous Flutterbies of Hawaii

Sky blends into Sea

That entire experience both slowed and sped up time for me...Everything had a bit of an urgency after that, at the same time a deep thankfulness set over.
A few weeks prior I had some body/energy work done by an amazing women in Waimea. It was pretty deep. She really healed me on so many levels as well as informing me that Pele wanted me to go to the Volcano~'I knew that!'
Of course, I wanted to go to the Volcano since July 2009 when I opened the door to my room aflame and saw our Pele poster in a burning ring of fire! I kind of took that as a sign, and then the Earth and Ocean movements definitely reminded me, so finally, we went for-

Spring Equinox 2011
